How I Went from Teacher...2...Orton Gillingham Tutor
I’m Jessie Reed, the owner of Teacher2Tutor Professional Tutoring Services. In 2021, I decided to leave my work as a school-based math and reading interventionist to dive into the world of tutoring. I am a certified Orton Gillingham educator through the Institute of Multi-Sensory Education (Learn more at IMSE). I am also a Structured Literacy educator through the Center of Effective Reading Instruction (CERI Providers). I have extensive experience working with students with dyslexia and dysgraphia. I previously worked as a school-based reading specialist for over ten years in urban, suburban, and rural communities. I have a Master’s Degree as a Reading Specialist and a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.

I strongly believe in using the Science of Reading to support students in their journey to learning how to read and write. My background as a reading and math interventionist helps me to create individualized learning plans for all students. Often students do not fully understand a concept taught in the general education curriculum, but classroom teachers are required to move on. This creates holes in a child’s foundation for learning reading and math. Each of these holes makes learning new and more complex skills more difficult to understand. It is my responsibility as a tutor and interventionist to find these missing skills and rebuild the foundation from the bottom up.
What's the blog about?
I am always looking for new ways to support educators, tutors, parents, and students. Becoming a tutor has allowed me to slow down and focus on what matters to me as an educator. In this blog, I am hoping to share some of what I have learned as well as give tips and tricks that will help parents with at-home learning.
“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” —Benjamin Franklin
Learning should be fun! This blog is about learning experiences that are engaging and multi-sensory.
